Sunless Tan
Sunless Tan
There are a lot of different ways to get a sunless tan. A service offered by salons and parlors is one way. You can also go in a tanning booth, or you can simply do it at home by using a tanning lotion or tanning spray. Each process of tanning may have different results depending on how light or how dark you want your tan to be.
TANNING BOOTHS:
Tanning booths still use UV rays to tan your skin (but there are some that use tanning sprays). Among the sunless tanning procedures, this procedure that is not recommended since it is not much different from tanning under the sun. It is not necessarily safer to use a tanning bed especially since people tend to use the tanning beds more often than they actually would expose themselves to the sun. This would result in even more exposure to harmful UV rays. Ventilation is also a problem in tanning booths because harmful fumes from sprays sometimes get trapped in the small room and are continuously breathed in by customers.
TANNING SERVICES IN SALON AND PARLOR:
Before indoor tanning was introduced, it were already offered in salons and parlors. The chemical salons use is the same as those found in tanning lotions and tanning sprays.
The only difference is that it is much more expensive in salons and parlors since you are paying for the materials used AND the services provided. If you have the money to spare, you can just go to tanning salons because you have experts taking care of you.
TANNING LOTION:
Tanning lotion is a similar product to what salons and parlors use. The brand used in salons and parlors may be more expensive. They may also have their own chemical solution which is different from the ones you can find in skin care markets. The result may also differ on how the product is applied and how the procedures are followed. But the good thing about tanning lotion is that it contains moisturizing solution which makes the result of the tanning better. There are some brands wherein moisturizing lotion is not included with the tanning lotion.
TANNING SPRAY:
The chemical content of a spray tan is the same as that of the tanning lotion and tanning booth. It contains DHA (Di-Hydroxy Acetone) which makes your skin color darker by staining the skin. The process of tanning spray is similar to the tanning lotion.
A main difference is that the tanning lotion has a longer lasting effect than the tanning spray. The effect of tanning sprays may last up to one week and as long as a month (depending on your daily activities).
There may also be a difference in the evenness of the tan with the two products due to difference in application.
All the different procedures will result in a sunless tan. But the result, price and procedure may differ. It is much safer than direct sunlight tanning (except for tanning booths using UV rays) but the cost of each procedure is still substantial. At least the chance of having a skin disease or skin cancer is eliminated. The only downsides of sunless tanning are side effects such as irritation of skin.
